Over Molding of PBT Gear for Diesel Engines

At Harbor Plastics we provide quality, economical, molding solutions like this custom component over molding project for a customer in the diesel engine industry. The over molding process opens up design possibilities by allowing customers to create a single component that contains the needed strength in one area with the required customizability in another. This gear is made of a central stainless steel stamping over molded with Valox 420 BPT 30% glass reinforced resin. We locally sourced the custom stainless steel stamping from a manufacturing partner as a value added service for this customer.

The gear is 2.046" in diameter with a height of .45". Tolerances as tight as ±1° and ±.001" were held on this component per customer specifications. We produced 12,000 of these custom gears at a rate of 120 parts per hour. This project demonstrates our ability to produce high volume components designed for high strength applications.
